Greenspring Residents are Honored for Their Dedication to Living a Healthier Lifestyle During National Physical Fitness and Sports Month

Greenspring retirement community has planned several activities for National Physical Fitness and Sports Month in May including a yoga alignment clinic and a nature walk near Accotink Creek, which runs adjacent to Greenspring's campus.  Greenspring residents are known stewards of campaigns promoting a healthier lifestyle, as is evident through their partnership with the National Institute on Aging's Go4Life®  campaign.  Greenspring held the first ever Go4Life® campaign event  at the campus in Springfield in November 2011. Twenty Fairfax County High School Students Eligible for Scholarships from Greenspring Retirement Community

Local students who have worked at the community are candidates for $6000 in scholarships toward higher education SPRINGFIELD, VIRGINIA - Since 1999, Greenspring has awarded scholarships to local high school students who have worked in various dining services capacities at the retirement community; in addition to receiving a wage, students may be eligible for scholarships paid directly to the college or professional school of each student's choice.  Three years ago, the scholarship amount was increased from $4000 to $6000 per student ($750 per semester).  The community is currently in the process of creating a Scholars Fund Endowment in order to...

Greenspring Residents Celebrate Earth Day on April 19

On Thursday, April 19, residents at Greenspring retirement community will participate in the annual Earth Day celebration!  This year, vendors include The Nature Conservancy, Brickman Landscaping, Shred-It, Master Gardeners from Green Spring Gardens, Potomac Disposal Service, Unitarian Church of Fairfax, and PNC Bank.  Additionally, several internal departments will have tools and information available such as the Greenspring Environmentalist group and the Greenspring Grounds department!  There will also be the opportunity to recycle old eyeglasses, batteries, cell phones, and prescription medicines.  Finally, some hybrid and electric cars will be on display in front of the Hunters Crossing clubhouse (weather dependent). Community Gardeners at Greenspring Retirement Community Prepare Their Green Thumbs for National Garden Month

(SPRINGFIELD, VIRGINIA) - Long-time Greenspring resident, Dr. Marcia Dake, is not only a woman significant to Greenspring's history, but also a significant contributor to the fields of nursing and education. After completing nursing school, Dake spent 14 months as a U.S. Army nurse with a six month tour of duty in Hawaii and Japan; she was stationed on a ship in Okinawa Harbor during the official V-J Day signing.  After serving as an Army nurse, she spent several years as a public school nurse and as a college nurse.  With the help of scholarships and the GI Bill, she completed her...
