Greenspring’s Kay Cumbie debuted Cricket the Clown in the 1970s

(Springfield, Va.) — In 1971, President Richard Nixon declared the first week of August as National Clown Week in the United States. The recognition has now expanded across the globe and is celebrated as International Clown Week. It was also during the 1970s that Greenspring resident Kay Cumbie first introduced Cricket the Clown—a character that has been with her for nearly 40 years.

(Springfield, Va.) - On Sunday, June 14, Greenspring retirement community was host to a Flag Day commemoration ceremony, “Salute to the Flag,” featuring special guests and patriotic song. Flag Day is celebrated annually to mark the adoption of the country’s flag by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation establishing June 14 as Flag Day.

(Springfield, Va.) — Dr. Lloyd Lehn officially retired 12 years ago, but you wouldn’t know it. Today you can likely find him in his own personally designed and constructed workshop, the Cuckoo Clock Hospital, as he calls it. He has been fixing cuckoo clocks for 20 years: oiling; cleaning; replacing/adjusting movements and music boxes; and making a variety of other adjustments.

(Springfield, Va.) – On Wednesday, April 29th, nearly 50 alumni from George Washington (GW) High School gathered at Greenspring retirement community in Springfield, Va. to celebrate the 70 th anniversary of the class of 1945. GW’s 1944-1950 Reunion Committee hosted the event, which welcomed alumni spanning more than 20 years in graduation dates from the class of 1941 through the class of 1962. (Springfield, Va.)—Greenspring recently announced that Fitch Ratings raised its revenue bonds rating to “A+” on the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority bonds, series 2006 A, issued for the Springfield, Va.-based Erickson Living retirement community.
