(Springfield, Va.) - Greenspring's Director of Finance, Berwick Drews, has been named a finalist for the 2013 CFO of the Year Awards presented by the Washington Business Journal.  The award recognizes financial professionals in Greater Washington for outstanding performance in their roles as corporate financial stewards.  Drews is one of two finalists selected in the Health & Biotech category.  Award winners will be announced at the Washington Business Journal's 2013 CFO of the Year Awards ceremony on July 18.
Drews has been the Director of Finance at Greenspring since 2006.  During his tenure, the community, which operates as a not-for-profit, has achieved strong financial results and industry-leading occupancy levels in all levels of care.  Since Drews joined Greenspring, the community has reported considerable growth in Revenues, Operating Margin and Cash & Investments.  In 2012, Greenspring's credit rating was upgraded to an "A"; in 2013 that rating was affirmed, solidifying Greenspring's position as one of the strongest and most financially stable continuing care retirement communities in the industry.
"I am truly honored to be considered as a finalist for the CFO of the Year award," said Drews.  "It is a great privilege to be able to provide Greenspring residents with the peace of mind that they've made a financially sound investment by moving to the community."
Drews has over 20 years of Finance and Operations experience and holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from George Mason University.  Drews, who is a Marine Corps veteran, also serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce.
