Greenspring, a continuing care retirement community managed by Erickson Living, recently kicked off the new year by hosting more than 50 guests for an enlightening discussion about health and wellness with Erickson Living's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Matt Narrett.
While improving their health is one of the most popular resolutions made by Americans each year, it's also one of the most challenging to achieve. In fact, according to a recent study by the University of Scranton, nearly 50 percent of people who make New Year's resolutions fall short after just a few months.
Dr. Narrett explained how Erickson Living's unique, whole-person approach to healthcare helps residents meet their goals and live better, healthier lives. At Greenspring, building a healthy lifestyle means caring for not only a person's physical well-being, but also for their emotional, occupational, social, intellectual and spiritual needs.
Personalized Model of Care
Over a delicious, healthy lunch of baked chicken and fish with seasonal vegetables, guests learned more about this integrated approach, starting with a model of care specifically designed for Greenspring residents. The community's on-site medical center is staffed with doctors available to see residents for same-day appointments, right down the hall from their apartment homes. Even if residents choose to keep their personal doctor, Dr. Narrett explained, all residents can utilize the services available in the medical center. And, all appointments are scheduled for a full 30 minutes to give each patient the attention they deserve.
Greenspring's physicians work in concert with a team of professionals, including physical and occupational therapists, on-site social workers, home health care providers, care coordinators, mental health professionals, nutrition and fitness specialists and others as needed to address the unique needs of each individual resident. Integrated electronic medical records (EMR) help these professionals communicate and share information in real-time to make the system work seamlessly for residents.
Guests also had the opportunity to learn about Erickson Advantage, an exclusive health insurance plan available only to residents of Erickson Living communities. These plans are insured through UnitedHealthcare, a Medicare Advantage organization with a Medicare contract, to help residents save money while providing more choices and higher-quality services.

As Dr. Narrett said, rather than addressing "what's the matter", Greenspring's approach to well-being focuses instead on what matters most to each individual.
