Dallas, Texas— Highland Springs, the Erickson Living retirement community in North Dallas, was named Best Retirement Community (55+), Best Assisted Living Facility and Best Memory Care Services in the Star Local Media 2017 Readers’ Choice Awards.

Team Highland Springs Gives Back to Plano Community

Dallas, Texas-- The employees of Highland Springs continued their tradition of giving back to the greater community during a recent service project.

On February 8, a group of 18 staff members volunteered their time and talent at Minnie’s Food Pantry , a non-profit, 501 (c-3) organization that assists people in need in Plano and beyond.

Under the guidance of the dedicated staff of Minnie’s, Team Highland Springs helped 75 families and 184 individuals, served 5,100 pounds of food, provided 4,250 meals, sorted 3 pallets and prepared 152 boxes.

Dallas, Texas— On moving day, Barbara Clary walked into her new apartment home at Highland Springs and found that the furniture was in place, boxes and wrapping paper were out of sight and even her bed was made.

Highland Springs Teamwork Supports Kids Against Hunger

Dallas, Texas— By the numbers, a charitable project performed by residents of Highland Springs retirement community was a tremendous success.

Residents and employees volunteered to fill 236 shifts of 30-minutes each on August 23. They measured ingredients, sealed packages and boxed highly nutritious, life-saving meals to support the worldwide humanitarian relief organization, Kids Against Hunger.

The team created 18,372 meals immediately ready for shipment to children nearly 1,400 miles away in Honduras, according to Pastor Jamie Bruning. She serves as the Pastoral Ministries Coordinator at the Erickson Living retirement community.

Dallas, Texas— It was a simple idea that got bigger.

The residents and staff of Highland Springs invited Dallas Fire Department Station #13 to be part of the community’s EMT/Firefighter Appreciation Day. Residents would surprise them with cookies and other homemade treats as a kind gesture of appreciation.

Dallas, Texas-- Two residents of Highland Springs received statewide honors for their artistic talent via the LeadingAge Texas 2017 ArtsInspire™ Contest.

Lynn Tagtmeier, a resident of the Erickson Living retirement community, earned first place in the drawing category for her colored pencil entry, “Little Blue Boy.”

Tom Naylor earned second place in the mixed media category for his entry, “Dance of the Stars.” Both of their pieces were among the finalists featured at an awards reception held on May 21 at the LeadingAge Texas Annual Meeting & Trade Show in Austin.
