With over 1,100 residents and more moving in every week, Highland Springs, an Erickson Living-managed community, is one of North Dallas' hottest addresses for active senior living.

"We've experienced tremendous growth over the past several years and continue to welcome new neighbors with the recent opening of our newest residence building, Lakeview Pointe," says Sales Director Christina Christie. "It's an exciting time in the life of our community."

As Highland Springs grows, the heart of what makes it an exceptional home—the people—remains the same.

"Everyone is friendly and helpful," says Elma Palomarez, who moved to Highland Springs in 2018 from Loveland, Colo. "If you need anything, all you have to do is ask."

From dining to fitness to activities, Highland Springs has something for everyone, and who better to offer an insider's look than those who live there.

Dining

Len Clegg moved to Highland Springs in January 2013 from the Preston Trails neighborhood. He says one of the community's best attributes is the social opportunities that come from sharing a meal with friends and neighbors.

"I attend the Men's Breakfast Club, which meets in the Fireside Grille every other Friday," says Len, a retired vice president of labor relations with Frito-Lay, Inc. "We'll have breakfast, share a few jokes, and hear from a speaker."

With the opening of Lakeview Pointe, the community is adding its fifth restaurant, the White Rock Bistro, offering a fast casual dining option.

"I like the variety of menu choices in the restaurants," says Elma. "Whatever your taste, you'll find it."

Fitness

Before Elma moved to Highland Springs, her shoulder and knees were causing trouble.

"I didn't want to have surgery," she says. "I wanted to see if they would improve with the right kind of exercises."

Highland Springs' on-site amenities include a fitness center, swimming pool, and exercise studio. The fitness staff, led by Fitness Manager Nicole Eison, offers group exercise classes as well as opportunities for personal training.

"I've been working out with Gianna [Agudelo, fitness specialist], and my shoulder and knees feel much better," says Elma. "I'm glad I was able to improve through exercise rather than surgery."

Len says it's the opportunity to build his own workout that appeals to him. An early riser, Len rides his bike around the 89-acre campus, stopping at the fitness center mid-way through his ride to work out his arms and legs on the machines.

"I enjoy riding around our beautiful grounds," says Len.

Activities

The robust activities calendar at Highland Springs, the more than 100 resident-led clubs, and the spontaneous get-togethers with neighbors are all part of the vibrant social fabric of the community.

"There's something for everyone," says Elma. "I like watching movies, so I often come to movie night. It's fun to watch with friends."

Moving to Texas from out of state, Elma also appreciates the weekly transportation schedule, which offers shuttle rides to area stores.

"I brought my car with me to Highland Springs, but it's so much easier to ride the shuttle," she says. "I don't have to worry about traffic."

To enrich her mind and spirit, Elma attends a weekly Bible study led by fellow resident Maureen Dobbins.

"This is the second Bible study I've done with Maureen," says Elma. "I learn something every time."
