Team Highland Springs Walks to End Alzheimer’s

Dallas, Texas—Taking it one step a time, residents and employees of Highland Springs made a big difference for the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Erickson Living retirement community held its annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s on September 28 around its beautiful Blue Bonnet Lake.

More than 100 people participated, including employees, residents from the independent living, memory care and assisted living neighborhoods and family members.  They walked a half-mile around the lake and enjoyed music and games throughout the event.

Leslie Doran, Fitness Manager at Highland Springs, announced that $9,000 was contributed for the research, awareness and family support provided by the Alzheimer’s Association.

“Seeing the event at Highland Springs grow over the years is very rewarding,” stated Ms. Doran.  “We sell T-shirts to not only raise money but also to increase awareness of the cause.”

“Additionally, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s has become a fun wellness activity as walking is such a great form of exercise, and walking as a group creates built-in motivation and camaraderie.  I’m proud of the entire team as we’ve become one of the top contributors in Collin County for the Alzheimer’s Association,” noted Ms. Doran.

Heather Ancheta is the Memory Care Manager at Highland Springs.  She noted the value of supporting the Alzheimer’s Association.

“The Alzheimer’s Association provides a wealth of resources for the person affected by dementia, family members, caregivers and professionals,” said Ms. Ancheta.  “They provide educational material in many different formats to include paper, seminars and even support groups.  The ability for Highland Springs to provide an on-site event at our 89-acre community is heartfelt and amazing.”
