Lantern Hill Salutes Veterans

On November 11, more than 60 residents and staff at Lantern Hill Retirement Community joined together for a special Veterans Day ceremony.  The program began with Bagpiper Lt. Jeff McCarthy leading more than 20 veterans, who live at Lantern Hill, to the flagpole in front of Union Square.

During the program, Sales Director Randy Carroll read a letter sent to his father, WWII veteran James Carroll, after the war thanking him for his service from President Harry Truman.

In the letter, President Truman wrote “I extend heartfelt thanks of a grateful Nation,” and “Because you demonstrated the fortitude, resourcefulness and calm judgement necessary to carry out that task, we now look to you for leadership and example in further exalting our country in peace.”

The program also included welcome remarks from Lantern Hill Security and Transport Manager Joe Bonilla; Pledge of Allegiance; Moment of Silence; Taps by Trumpet Player Alyssa Aiello; and a beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace by Bagpiper Lt. Jeff McCarthy.
