GLEN MILLS, P.A. - Approximately 100 members of the Blanket Circle at Maris Grove will not only attend their annual celebration luncheon for the sixth year beginning tomorrow at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 14, but they will also be acknowledged by Delaware County educators and business leaders for a truly tremendous accomplishment.
In addition to knitting one beautiful blanket after another since the group was founded by Maris Grove resident Frankie Moses in September 2008, this stellar group of 146 loving ladies weave compassion, smiles and support for the Chester/Delaware County chapters of the national non-profit organization Project Linus.
Since that day in September 2008, when Mrs. Moses convened the first meeting of the Blanket Circle, an ASTOUNDING 5,000-plus afghans, trimmed fleece blankets and cotton quilts have been created for special needs children who are part of the Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU).
Member of the media are invited to attend this luncheon meeting where they will be able to see Mrs. Moses and her colleagues hand out more than 500 new beautiful blankets they created for the children at the Intermediate Unit. In addition, small animal toys will be attached to the blankets which will not only warm the children, but put some smiles on their faces.
Dr. Lawrence J. O'Shea, executive director of the DCIU, will deliver the keynote speech to the Blanket Circle and thank the ladies for their tremendous talent, compassion and dedication.
The Delaware County Intermediate Unit is responsible for the education of 15,000 special needs children, and 65,000 students in public and independent schools.
The luncheon will take place in the Cardinal Clubhouse Catering Room of the community. Maris Grove is located at 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA 19342. Media members interested in attending can contact Tony Ciavolella for further details.
