Maris Grove’s Blanket Circle Celebrates its 10,000th Donated Blanket

GLEN MILLS, Pa. – After eight years of faithful giving, the Blanket Circle at Maris Grove retirement community, has donated its 10,000th blanket. To commemorate this feat, the group hosted a celebratory luncheon Tuesday, Sept. 27, with many of their 145 members.

The members of the Blanket Circle create handmade fleece blankets and cotton quilts as gifts for special needs children. The members then pack and ship the blankets to numerous organizations, including, the Chester County and Delaware County Head Start Programs. The members also make their own jewelry to sell at events in order to raise money for the materials they use to make blankets.

“We’re very excited to have donated over 10,000 blankets to those in need,” said Frankie Moses, co-coordinator of the Blanket Circle. “Our group was founded on the principle of giving to others, and as we celebrate 10,000 donations, I think we can be proud of what we have accomplished.”

The Delaware County Head Start program, the recipient of over 2,700 donated blankets from the Blanket Circle, is the organization that has received the most donations. As part of the celebration, employees from the Head Start Program were present to speak to the Blanket Circle members about Head Start, which helps provide children from low-income families with a comprehensive program to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional and psychological needs.

Deneen Mosley, Head Start parent, family and community engagement coordinator, had the opportunity to address the members of the Blanket Circle. “Our program could never say thank you enough. Your group has worked tirelessly to donate over 2,700 blankets, ensuring the children in our program all receive one. We are so very thankful.”

The Blanket Circle will continue toward its next milestone, with hopes to hold another celebratory luncheon when it hits 20,000 donated blankets.
