Maris Grove Awards $136,800 in Scholarships to Students

19 graduating high school seniors were awarded $7,200 scholarships.

Maris Grove, a developed and managed Erickson Living retirement community in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, held its annual Scholar Awards Ceremony on May 19. More than 200 residents, students, and family members attended the celebration.

At the event, 19 graduating high school seniors were awarded $7,200 scholarships. The Scholar's Program is funded by the residents of Maris Grove to support high school students employed on campus who have shown commitment to serving the Maris Grove community. Qualifications include working 1,000 hours at Maris Grove's Dining Services during their junior and senior years in high school.

“Thanks to our generous residents for their gifts to the Scholars’ Fund for these deserving students,” said Maris Grove Philanthropy Director Barbara Burri. “With increasing costs to higher education, scholarships can be the key that opens the door to a better future.”

Each Maris Grove Scholars’ Fund award equals $7,200, or $900 per semester for up to eight semesters.  Students currently in the program (those in college who are sophomores, juniors or seniors this fall) will also see an increase in their awards from $750 per semester to $900.

In addition, the community gave out an additional $8,500 in Named Scholarships. Rachael McCullough from Delaware County Technical High School and Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School received the Maris Grove Staples Foundation scholarship of $3,500 for her outstanding volunteer work as a firefighter and her many hours of service with the Girl Scouts. Also, Emily Freney from Archmere Academy was awarded three named scholarships for her outstanding qualifications— the “DuPont Retirees STEM Scholarship” of $2,500, the “Maris Grove Engineering Scholarship” of $1,000, and the “Maris Grove Computer Science Scholarship” of $1,500.
