Giving back for a great cause

Once a month, Fox Run residents get together with the fourth grade class at Franklin Road Christian School for a little intergenerational bonding. Roy and Barbara Birmingham have been involved in the program since they moved to Fox Run in 2003.

Working with a Franklin Road teacher, the Birminghams plan a year's worth of activities to share with the students, including craft projects, plays and even gardening.

As thanks, the students invite residents to their school musical program and other fun events. 'At Christmas, they have a real tea for us at their school,' says Barbara. 'The parents bring in their special dishes and the kids set the tables beautifully. They're all dressed up and they serve us little tea sandwiches of cucumber and butter.'

The relationship between Fox Run and Franklin Road benefits everyone involved. While the children gain mentors who can share their wisdom and experience, residents like Roy and Barbara enjoy knowing they're making an impact on these young lives.
