Love comes when you least expect it

Meet Frank and Natalie Margiotta

On the night of Hurricane Floyd in September of 1999, both Frank and Natalie Margiotta found themselves in the same crowded hotel lounge. Although they were both there for a 55-plus professional singles group, neither actually expected to meet their future spouse at the event.

Natalie noticed Frank right away. "I liked how he looked—not just his appearance, but his warm smile, kind of twinkling blue eyes full of humor and friendliness," she remembers. Less than a week later, Frank and Natalie went on their own first date.

The couple found they shared a common love of books and publishing. After a 27-year career in the Air Force and subsequent positions at Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base and at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C., Frank began his civilian career in the publishing division of Macmillan books. Meanwhile, Natalie concentrated on her career at the Washington Post.

After dating for six months, Frank and Natalie knew it was time to tie the knot. Now, they're enjoying retirement together at Ashby Ponds.

"We were tired of taking care of a house," says Natalie. "We looked at a dozen retirement communities in the metropolitan area before deciding on Ashby Ponds. We love everything about our new life here."
