Singer, performer

The Cedar Crest Singers was created for music lovers by music lovers, says Blanche Blitzer, the group's codirector. "No matter your experience or voice, we're open to any new members." Blanche says. " There are no altos, no sopranos and no auditions. All you have to do is love to sing."

Meeting weekly for years now, the group has an extensive song list.

"We've sung just about anything you can think of that's popular with our generation," Blanche says. "But our favorites are songs from the '40s and '50s and, of course, just about anything from Broadway, past or present."

Twice a year, the group shares its joyful sounds in spring and winter concerts.

"One is a holiday show," Blanche explains. "We call it that because we have a little bit of everything—Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year's music. The other is a spring show that has lots of upbeat, happy songs."

The theme of last year's spring show was "Spirit of Life." It included songs like "Getting to Know You" from The King and I, "Sunrise, Sunset" from Fiddler on the Roof  and "Can't Help Loving That Man" from Showboat. The group also performed other popular tunes like "Moon River" and "Autumn Leaves."

"We're still working on what we'll sing this spring," Blitzer says.
