Educational event co-sponsored by Maryland Department of Aging
PARKVILLE, MD---Oak Crest, the Erickson Living retirement community, hosted a presentation by Phyllis Borzi, the Assistant Secretary for the Employee Benefits Security Administration of the United States Department of Labor.
The March 29th educational event was co-sponsored by the Maryland Department of Aging.
Following her remarks, Assistant Secretary Borzi took questions from residents of Oak Crest and other guests.
Assistant Secretary Borzi, confirmed in July, 2010, spoke to residents and guests regarding the mission and responsibilities of the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) and took questions from audience members on health care and retirement plan laws.
EBSA protects workers and their families' employee benefits through its administration and enforcement of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), the law that governs employer-sponsored retirement, health and other welfare benefits.
EBSA's jurisdiction encompasses the approximately 140 million Americans covered by more than 707,000 private retirement plans, 2.5 million health plans and similar numbers of other welfare benefit plans holding over $6 trillion in assets as well as plan sponsors and members of the employee benefits community.
