Oak Crest Awards Collegiate Scholarships to 28 Employees

Parkville, Maryland--Oak Crest announced the 28-member Class of 2016 Student Scholars at its 20th Annual Award Ceremony on April 20.

The recipients, all members of the Dining Services Department, earned four-year collegiate scholarships in the amount of $5,000.

In 20 years, $2.69 million has been awarded to assist 737 students to advance their collegiate careers, according to Mark Roussey, Executive Director for the Erickson Living retirement community.  The program is funded primarily through resident contributions.

David Colacicco is the Director of Dining Services at Oak Crest.  He noted the strong bond between residents and the students.

“We hire more than 180 students each year so we thank the residents for the unique ‘on the job’ mentoring they provide and their generosity in contributing to the Scholarship Fund,” he stated.  “I am continually amazed that these students, who work in excess of 1,000 hours in two years, successfully balance their school, employment and extracurricular activities to be true leaders.  We appreciate their energy and wish them all the best as they continue the next chapter in their lives.”

Chris Isennock, a General Manager with Dining Services, provided the keynote address.  A graduate of The Culinary Institute of America with a Bachelor’s in Professional Studies in Hospitality Management, he was a student scholar when employed at Oak Crest from 1999-2003.

Ms. Betty Barker, the Resident Advisory Council Philanthropy Liaison, spoke on behalf of the residents.

To be eligible for a scholarship, the students employed in Dining Services must work a minimum of 1,000 hours between their junior and senior years of high school, build positive relationships with residents and maintain a strong employment record.  For more information about the program, please call 410-665-1000.
