Oak Crest Introduces New Outdoor Venue

Parkville, Maryland—Oak Crest, the Erickson Living retirement community, officially opened a new outdoor venue during a ribbon cutting ceremony held on October 27.

Named Friendship Park, the 25,000 square-feet venue features three putting greens, two lighted bocce courts, a walking trail and an exercise court to be utilized by residents, family members and employees.  A gazebo and fountain add to the ambience of the park.

The completion of Friendship Park is one phase of a repositioning project that includes the opening of a spacious, state-of-the-art fitness center later this year, and an aquatics center, indoor bistro and al fresco dining in 2018.  More than 8,000 trees, shrubs and flowers will be planted, a key component of the green-friendly design.

Hord, Coplan Macht, Inc. served as the lead architect, and The Whiting Turner Contracting Company was the prime contractor with support from JFW, Inc. Project Management and LSG Landscaping Architecture.

Under the leadership of Dawn Yeager, Senior Director of Development with Erickson Living, Steven Losin, Project Manager at Erickson Living, Wendy Kelly, Director of General Services at Oak Crest and Jeff Hohenberger, Senior Facilities Manager at Oak Crest, the project finished on schedule.

During the kick-off celebration, Mark Roussey, Executive Director at Oak Crest, stated, “Friendship Park radiates a beautiful first impression for those who visit our community.  From morning to evening, it has quickly become a hub of socialization, wellness and even friendly competition.”

“I would like to thank the residents of Oak Crest for their participation in the design process.  Their preferences mattered, from the access points and amenities to even the name.   Our team took their ideas to heart, and, because of this collaboration, we are confident the park will be enjoyed for many years to come,” noted Mr. Roussey.

Following the ceremony, residents and employees partook in a bocce game and a putting contest with refreshments, hosted by the fitness team of Oak Crest.
