Seven large boxes filled with toys such as stuffed animals, art materials, dolls, games, matchbox cars, and coloring books were delivered by residents and staff sporting Santa hats. Riderwood Residents Donate $378,593 to Thank Hourly Staff for Jobs Well Done in 2012

SILVER SPRING, MD (December 11 , 2012) --  Residents of Riderwood retirement community in Silver Spring, MD , have donated $378,593 to their campus' Staff Appreciation Fund to show their appreciation to hourly staff for jobs well done in 2012.   The money will benefit 1,208  hourly staff members from Dining Services, General Services, and the Medical Center. This fundraising drive among residents is done annually during the holiday season. Riderwood Resident Dr. Charles E. Rath is Awarded His Long-Overdue WWII Bronze Star Medal

SILVER SPRING, MD (November 16, 2012) - U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski worked to ensure Riderwood retirement community resident Dr. Charles E. Rath, a World War II veteran, has been awarded his long-awaited Bronze Star medal. Dr. Rath received his medal, along with an American flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol, at a Defense Information School Ceremony in Fort Meade, MD. Misplaced paperwork was the cause of Dr. Rath waiting 67 years for his medal. Dr. Rath was drafted into the Army as a doctor during World War II following his internship.
