SILVER SPRING, MD (November 16, 2011) - Laurie Cooke, the daughter of Riderwood residents Donald and Helen Hawkins, has been selected "Mentor of the Year" by the American Society for Association Executives.
Cooke is CEO of the Healthcare Business Women's Association (HBA), the leading nonprofit professional association in the women's leadership space in healthcare globally.
With a network of more than 20,000 individuals and nearly 130 corporate partners across several continents, Cooke is perfectly placed to impact the lives of individuals and companies. As the first CEO of HBA she laid the groundwork to more than triple the organization's membership base in her tenure of just five years.
Cooke was asked recently to join a roundtable by the White House to discuss the key issues facing women in the United States. She volunteers with her church on numerous projects serving the impoverished. She also devotes her time to social justice causes, fundraising campaigns and developing community leaders.
Cooke  and her husband, Peter, have two adult children and live in the Philadelphia area. She grew up in the College Park area with her two sisters and one brother.
