Hundreds of Riderwood Retirement Community Residents to Celebrate  
Martin Luther King Jr.'s Legacy the Evening of January 16 with Readings and the Singing of Civil Rights Era Songs
WHAT:
"His Legacy and Our Future," an hour-long,  Monday evening, January 16, celebration of the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., by hundreds of Riderwood retirement community Residents in Silver Spring, MD. Residents will read from King's letters and speeches. After the readings, the readers will offer some thoughts stimulated by King's messages of nonviolence, peace, and justice and human rights for all. King spoke movingly of dreams for our future. The Riderwood residents hope to leave this celebration with a greater knowledge of King's legacy and a greater commitment to fulfill the American Dream.
ITINERARY:
There will be three readings:
"Letter from Birmingham City Jail" (April 16, 1963)
"Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence" (April 4, 1967)
"I See the Promised Land" (April 3, 1968, the eve of King's assassination in Memphis on April 4)
The evening will conclude with the singing of songs from the Civil Rights Era.
