Riderwood's Veterans Expo Says Thanks, Lends Resources to Veterans

November 11, 2013

SILVER SPRING, MD--Veterans Day provides Americans with the opportunity to say "thank you" to men and women who have served our nation in the armed forces.
At Riderwood, a new event reached out to the surrounding community to express the mutual and heartfelt appreciation for these heroes.
On Friday, November 8th, Riderwood hosted its first Veteran Day Expo to commemorate the sacrifices of veterans and provide resources to them and their families.
Along with residents from Riderwood, members of local military service organizations such as the College Park & Beltsville VFW and Greenbelt American Legion attended as well as officials from the Montgomery County Veterans Commission & Board of Elections.
Additionally, students from John F. Kennedy High School formed the Color Guard.  Otto Munoz, a service manager at Riderwood who is also a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, provided his reflections on Veterans Day.
Riderwood was honored to have Gny. Sgt. Jason Turner of the United States Marine Corps serve as the event's keynote speaker.  Gny. Sgt. Turner is a 14-year veteran of the USMC, having served in Iraq and the Pacific.
Executive Director Chip Warner served as the event's emcee.
