Culver Hayes, 85, Completes 4,000 Workouts at Seabrook Fitness Center

At 85 years young, while many are just getting up in the morning, Culver Hayes can be found working out in Seabrook Retirement Community’s fitness center six days a week.  Since moving to the community in November 2001, he has completed 4,000 workouts.

“Working out makes me feel good,” said Hayes.  “Without it, I feel sluggish.”

Hayes has been active his whole life.  When he resided in Berkeley Heights, he used to run in the morning before going to work.  At Seabrook, he uses the aerobic machines and free weights in the fitness center.

“It can be difficult some days to stay motivated but sticking to a routine helps,” said Hayes.

Seabrook recognizes residents for 100, 500, and 1,000 workouts in the fitness center. When a resident achieves 100 workouts, their photo is posted on the wall, and fellow residents in the fitness center take a moment to applaud them for their outstanding achievement.

The Seabrook fitness center has equipment specifically designed for older adults and offers group fitness classes like yoga, Tai Chi, and water aerobics in the heated, indoor swimming pool.

Seabrook is one of 19 continuing care retirement communities managed by Erickson Living. The scenic 98-acre campus is located in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, and is home to more than 1,400 residents.
