WHAT:

A Tuesday, February 17, New Orleans-style Mardi Gras celebration by scores of residents of Tallgrass Creek retirement community in Overland Park, KS, in which they will wear wild, whacky, weird, wicked, and whimsical masks they designed and made during the past month.

Their masks will be judged by a committee of fellow residents, with winners receiving gift cards. They will also wear an assortment of beads as they party ‘til the cows come home, so-to-speak.

Landscaper and Tallgrass Creek Now Planning for Spring, Summer and Fall Seasons

OVERLAND PARK, KS (February 11, 2015) -- Though spring hasn't quite sprung, Tallgrass Creek retirement community is gearing up for the first glimpse of green that will pop up around its 65-acre campus.

TrueNorth, Tallgrass Creek's new landscaping and maintenance contractor that began winter maintenance last November, is now preparing for the spring, summer and fall seasons.

OVERLAND PARK, KS (January 8, 2015) – The population of Overland Park, KS, will increase by 140 people with the opening of Meadowlark Terrace, a new residential building at Tallgrass Creek, a continuing care retirement community.

OVERLAND PARK, KS (December 23, 2014) – Tallgrass Creek retirement community’s occupancy at yearend 2014 is 10 percent above the national industry average. In addition, 130 households are now on the Priority List for future move-ins.

Tallgrass Creek currently has 330 residents who moved to the community from Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Texas, Florida, New York and North Carolina.

Tallgrass Creek expanded its campus in 2014 with the addition of a new residence building. Meadowlark Terrace, with 87 apartment homes, is currently 90 percent reserved and occupied.

Art is a Serious Creative Pursuit at Tallgrass Creek

OVERLAND PARK, KS (January 6, 2015) -- Painting is more than a pastime for 20 creative Tallgrass Creek retirement community residents who gather weekly to hone their artistic talents.

The participating artists meet every Wednesday in the community's classroom for two-hour painting classes taught by Alysia Quisenberry, a former art teacher in the local Blue Valley School District with a college degree in painting and printmaking. She lived her own version of it.

This event is being held in conjunction with Harvesters, a regional food bank serving a 25-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas.

If you peek into Tallgrass Creek retirement community's classroom any Friday morning at 8:30, you'll see around 22 residents performing the ancient Chinese discipline known as tai chi. But you won't hear the usual chatter of many group functions because the precise, meditative movements are performed slowly with lights dimmed, in silence. OVERLAND PARK, KS (August 27, 2014) - Eight members of the Executive Team at Tallgrass Creek retirement community late yesterday dumped buckets of ice water on their heads to raise awareness for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease. They did this to join a viral movement called the "Ice Bucket Challenge."
