Art is a Serious Creative Pursuit at Tallgrass Creek

OVERLAND PARK, KS (January 6, 2015) -- Painting is more than a pastime for 20 creative Tallgrass Creek retirement community residents who gather weekly to hone their artistic talents.

The participating artists meet every Wednesday in the community's classroom for two-hour painting classes taught by Alysia Quisenberry, a former art teacher in the local Blue Valley School District with a college degree in painting and printmaking. Quisenberry, who is the daughter of late Kansas City Royals pitcher Dan Quisenberry, has taught acrylic/oil painting classes at Tallgrass Creek for four years and enjoys sharing her love of art...

OVERLAND PARK, KS (December 25, 2014) – Tallgrass Creek retirement community resident Betsy Heimke doesn’t need to see “Unbroken,” the Angelina Jolie- directed movie opening on Christmas Day based on Laura Hillenbrand’s best-selling book about Louis Zamperini and the torture he endured at the hands of the Japanese in a WWII prison camp. She lived her own version of it.

Zamperini’s story is one of survival, resilience and redemption (he traveled to Japan before his death and forgave his captors). Heimke’s story is also one of survival and resilience. She, however, will never forgive her captors....

A Friday, October 10, "Sweep the Orioles in the ALCS and Sweep Out Hunger" Kansas city Royals Pep Rally/Food Drive by more than 300 residents and staff of Tallgrass Creek retirement community in Overland Park, KS. This event is being held in conjunction with Harvesters, a regional food bank serving a 25-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas.

Tallgrass Creek resident and staff will donate food and related household products during an 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Pep Rally to cheer their beloved Kansas City Royals onto an ALCS victory over the Baltimore Orioles....

But you won't hear the usual chatter of many group functions because the precise, meditative movements are performed slowly with lights dimmed, in silence. OVERLAND PARK, KS (August 27, 2014) - Eight members of the Executive Team at Tallgrass Creek retirement community late yesterday dumped buckets of ice water on their heads to raise awareness for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease.
