OVERLAND PARK, KS – Residents from Tallgrass Creek retirement community's Water Aerobics Group December 11 jumped into a 50-Foot-long, 4-feet-deep pool and raced more131 rubber ducks sponsored by staff and residents to raise money for charity.
The swimmers raised $705 for Tallgrass Creek's Benevolent Care Fund, which helps residents who experience an unforeseen change in their financial situation for reasons beyond their control.
A swim noodle wall was created by the residents in the pool. All rubber ducks were put in the pool at the exact same time. The residents created a current to push the ducks to the other end of the pool (going South to North).
When they got to a black lap marker at the North end of the pool they stopped. The first three ducks to touch the pool wall were declared the winners.
Winners were :
1st Place: Alton Schwandt, a Gold Medal and Prize basket valued at $100.
2nd Place: Joan Grant, a Silver Medal and a free hour of Housekeeping.
3rd Place: Betty Hund, a Bronze Medal and A gift certificate for a Half hour of Housekeeping
The Fitness/Aquatics Center was set in Derby décor as scores of staff and residents cheered on the swimming residents and the winning rubber ducks.
