OVERLAND PARK, KS (January 31, 2017) -- Tallgrass Creek retirement community's Duck Derby raised $1,015 for the Resident Care Fund which helps residents who experience an unforeseen change in their financial situation for reasons beyond their control.
Residents jumped into a 50-Foot-long, 4-feet-deep pool and raced rubber ducks sponsored by staff and residents with a minimum pledge of $5.
The swimming residents created a wall at one end of the pool. All ducks were put in the pool at the exact same time. The residents then made a current to push the ducks to the other end of the pool When they got to black lap marker at the end of the pool they stopped and the first three ducks to touch the pool wall were the winner.
A total of 106 ducks was sold with residents and staff choosing from four levels of giving per duck purchase. The races were separated into a $5 race, a $10 race, a $15 race and a $20 race.
The top 3 finishers of each race advanced to the next race. The final race then determined the "Top Duck". A donation was made in the name of the resident who had the "Top Duck". The top 3 finishers were Jean Janecek , Alleene and Roy Martin.
Duck sugar cookies and ice cold water were served for 75 guests in attendance who cheered on their sponsored ducks.
