It's Prom Night at Tallgrass Creek

OVERLAND PARK, KS  -- A Tuesday evening, April 19, Junior-Senior Prom at Tallgrass Creek retirement community brought about 30 students from Blue Valley North High School and nearly 125 retirees together on the dance floor.

They did the Electric Slide, Macarena and Booty Call, among other dances. There was even an impromptu Harlem Shake.  And there were a few Fox Trots, Waltzes, Twists and Disco dances thrown in for good measure.

The Prom was a night of dancing and the sharing of life stories. A Dee Jay provided by the students played an assortment of music genres – everything from Big Band to Rock, from Country to Hip-Hop – as inter-generational age barriers were dismantled.

The students, who were chaperoned, brought  flowers to the residents. They shared soft drinks and snacks with the residents and talked about their plans for college. Perhaps most important, they danced the night away together until the proverbial cows came home.

Tallgrass Creek offers extensive wellness and prevention programs, balance assessment and fall prevention programs, and a Fitness and Aquatics Center.
