President Harry Truman to "Give 'em Hell!" July 20 at Tallgrass Creek

 

WHAT:

A Wednesday, July 20 (2 -3:30  p.m.) Whistlestop Campaign Stop by President Harry Truman (aka Neil Johnson) and his wife Bess (aka Nancy Cramer ) at Tallgrass Creek retirement community in Overland Park, KS. President Truman will “Give ‘em Hell!” as he debates Donald Trump (aka Joe Fournier ) and Hillary Clinton (aka  Heather Lawler).

 

This festive event is being held in partnership with the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum in Independence, Missouri. It will – arguably -- be the zaniest, most unpredictable occasion of this year’s Presidential Election season and it will include the following:

 

  • A Bourbon and Branch Toast (Harry’s favorite afternoon drink) to President Truman by nearly 100 Tallgrass Creek residents.

  • Presidential Campaign bunting and posters, circa 1948, along with a facsimile of President Truman’s railroad car platform from which he made his historic 1948 Whistlestop Campaign.

  • Vintage 1948 Presidential Campaign Memorabilia courtesy of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum (including the iconic “Dewey Defeats Truman” newspaper)

  • A group singing of the song “I’m Just Wild About Harry.

  • The presentation of Commemorative Coins by President Truman to military veterans who live at Tallgrass Creek as a Thank You for their service to our nation.

  • Eyewitness accounts by retirees who knew the real Harry Truman and/or who worked for his 1948 campaign and/or saw his Whistestop Campaign as it made its way through the nation.

  • Photo sessions where Tallgrass Creek residents will get their photos taken with a life-size cardboard depiction of President Truman.

  • Mingling of the impersonators -- President Truman, Bess Truman, Donald Trump, and Hillary Clinton -- among Tallgrass Creek residents.
