Life, lighter

By Jan Landon

Some sentimentality was attached to the furniture Granville "Bo" and Katy Bohannan left behind when they moved to Tallgrass Creek.

"We had a lot of stuff to get rid of," Mrs. Bohannan says. "We had already downsized once, but we had bedroom furniture, dining room chairs, a sofa, computer desk, and other things to find new homes for."

Some of their items were sold, others were given to charity, and still others were adopted by family members.

"You just have to bite the bullet," Mrs. Bohannan says. "Get yourself in the right frame of mind think about how much happier you re going to be. I don t consider it a sacrifice. It was a means to an end."

You re not alone

When it comes to paring down belongings, future residents of Tallgrass Creek have help at their disposal.

"You re not supposed to wake up in the middle of the night and worry about this," Tallgrass Creek Personal Moving Consultant Judy Baxter says. "That s my job." As the Tallgrass Creek personal moving consultant, Baxter offers a wealth of resources and services to those moving to the community. "I will help in any way possible," she says.

Baxter even makes home visits to help future residents determine which pieces of furniture will fit in their new apartment homes at Tallgrass Creek. She has a magnetic board with floor plans where she can place magnetic pieces of furniture, done to scale, to determine what will work.

Ask yourself two questions, Baxter advises: "What furniture do I use daily? What, because of sentiment, can I just not live without?"
