Independence square This month, as the country waves its flags in celebration of Independence Day, Florence Perkins can look at her own handmade ode to America the quilt she crafted, featuring the faces of every United States President. Perkins quilt gained fame among her neighbors at Brooksby while it was on display earlier this year in the community s McIntosh Clubhouse. She had just added a square for President Barack Obama to complete the work. I ve made a lot of quilts, and I said, Gee, I need a challenge, Perkins recalls. That was when she stumbled upon a book with patterns of the Presidents. She accepted the challenge and finished the quilt a year later, just before she moved to Brooksby. That is, until she went searching for a pattern for the 44th President.
