Our house sold in less than 13 days'

After friends threw David and Elsie Sartorio a 50th wedding anniversary party at Oak Crest, the couple was immediately attracted to the friendly Parkville-based community. We know a lot of people who live here, and everyone expressed enjoyment and happiness with their decision to move, says Mrs. Sartorio. Seven years later, the couple decided to call Oak Crest and see for themselves what the hubbub was all about. Seventeen days after making that call, the Sartorios sold their four-bedroom house in Cockeysville and are now enjoying Oak Crest s worry-free lifestyle for themselves. I was surprised at how quickly it sold, Mrs. Sartorio says. Our house was on the market for less than 13 days!

Expert advice

The Sartorios situation sounds easy enough. But like most people entering today s real estate market, they weren t exactly sure what to expect. Fortunately, they had the experience and know-how of Oak Crest Personal Moving Consultant Lisa Kane and Erickson Realty & Moving Services, a program established to help people sell their houses quickly and move easily. Lisa and the Erickson Realty & Moving Services program were a big help, says Mrs. Sartorio. She came and measured my furniture, plotted everything on a scaled floor plan, and showed me what would fit in the new apartment. I was able to bring pretty much everything I wanted. Lisa also suggested we depersonalize the house by packing away family photos and knickknacks. In addition to providing assistance with downsizing, staging, and space planning, Kane explained the Move on Us program, which reimburses new Erickson community residents up to $2,000 in approved moving expenses. The Sartorios took Kane s advice and listed with Oak Crest preferred Realtor Gary Luttrell from Long & Foster s Timonium office. The creation of Erickson Realty & Moving Services has been well received by the clients we share, says Luttrell s assistant and licensed real estate agent Carol Hallinan. It s opened the gates to so many resources and provided some financial relief from the costs associated with moving.

Perfect timing

Hallinan says it s important for people to be realistic about their expectations when selling their house in today s market. The Sartorios priced their house right, says Hallinan, and as a result, we were able to get the right buyer quickly. The location of their house was a contributing factor as well; some locations are moving faster than others, and Cockeysville seems to be one of those areas. Hallinan warns potential sellers especially older adults looking to move into a community like Oak Crest that waiting out the market may not be the wisest choice when deciding whether or not to sell your home. It will take a while for things to level out, as it does in all supply and demand markets, but your health or financial situation could change drastically in that time, says Hallinan. Going out to people s homes and discussing the value of their house is part of what we do. Even if you decide that now is not the right time to sell, we are happy to help you make informed choices. The Sartorios are settling into their new two bedroom terrace-level apartment home and are looking forward to having their kids visit. We have a son in Salisbury, Md., another in Raleigh, N.C., and two daughters in Florida, so we knew we wanted an extra bedroom so they would have a place to stay when they came to visit, they say. But according to Mrs. Sartorio, the thing she and David look forward to most is the peace of mind that comes with living at Oak Crest.
