This Thanksgiving, Harold and Dorothy Moors have a lot to be thankful for. With the help of Erickson Realty & Moving Services, they were able to sell their Glen Burnie home of 59 years in less than a week for more than they asked. We knew we were getting to a point where we couldn t take care of our home, says Mr. Moors. Our daughter Carol lives 15 minutes from Riderwood and suggested we visit. Many of our friends from church had moved to Charlestown (an Erickson community in Catonsville, Md.) and really liked it. ' So the idea of moving to an Erickson community near our daughter and grandchildren was very enticing. As soon as we visited Riderwood, we knew this was the place for us. Once the decision was made, the Moors put down a refundable deposit to join the priority list, which held their spot in line for an apartment home. There are so many wonderful incentives that we decided to move to Riderwood earlier than we first thought, says Mrs. Moors, listing Erickson Realty & Moving Services a complimentary program to help people sell their homes quickly and move easily among the key perks.

People on your side

The first item on the Moors agenda was to get their house sold. They chose an Erickson Realty & Moving Services-recommended real estate agent, who visited the couple in their home. We got along very well, says Mrs. Moors. She had some really good ideas for us and did a beautiful job presenting the house. Following their agent s advice, the Moors put their house on the market on a Friday and had five contracts by the following Wednesday. The best part was that all the contracts were over and above what we asked, says Mr. Moors. Our Realtor did a great job. She kept us informed via e-mail throughout the whole process. We always knew what was going on. Once their house was sold, the Moors then turned their attention to downsizing and packing. ' An Erickson Realty & Moving Services-recommended mover visited the couple in their home before the move to take inventory of their items and to ensure that the move would be as seamless as possible. The movers were very good, very careful, and most of all, efficient, says Mr. Moors. I believe they did a better and faster job than we could have done. On the day of their move toRiderwood, the movers had the Moors unpacked in just under three hours. It was really unbelievable, says Mrs. Moors. We have absolutely no complaints.

What life is like now

Now, a mere three weeks after their move, the Moors are busy settling in and meeting new friends. Everyone is very friendly, says Mr. Moors. It s so easy to see and meet new people. Even the couple s grandchildren have already come to visit. They couldn t wait to see our new place, says Mr. Moors. Now they are anxious to have their first sleepover. Since the move, Mrs. Moors continues her work with Maryland Therapeutic Riding, in Crownsville, Md. We use horses for improving the lives of people with special needs, she says. I ve been working with the group for eight years now. We also have a Horses for Heroes program which provides returning vets the opportunity to ride. I ve seen firsthand how it helps them stretch their minds and bodies. Mr. Moors, who was very active in his church before moving, is exploring the wide variety of social options on campus. We are very happy here, he says. We are both looking forward to many happy days ahead.
