Seabrook Pet Club takes measures to ensure 'no pet left behind'

At Seabrook, animal owners stick together. That s the idea behind the Seabrook Pet Club. The organization, headed by resident Bea Gardella, focuses on helping out fellow pet owners on campus and animal organizations in the area. We support our local SPCA, the American Humane Society, and we help walk or take care of resident pets, Gardella explains. We just look to do something small to help animals.

Pet-sitting service

Seabrookis home to more than 70 pet owners. And there are times when some can use a hand with walking, feeding, boarding, or vetting. If people are going away for a little bit and need someone to watch their pet, we can make a schedule to help them out. Or if someone is feeling under the weather and needs us to take their dog for a walk, we can do that too. And we don t mind helping club members take their pet to the vet if they need a hand, says Gardella. The club also works to keep the community up-to-date on any pertinent animal-related information. We spread the news about the pet food recalls last year and do public service messages like reminding owners to keep their dogs out of cars with rolled-up windows in the summer, Gardella explains. It s a lot of work, so we are always looking for new members and people who can help out. Volunteers encouraged!

Put to good use

This past fall, the Pet Club organized a drive to collect linens for local animal shelters to use as bedding. SPCA Volunteer Coordinator Francesca Alexander says, We appreciate the ongoing efforts from theSeabrook communityto help the animals at the SPCA. Because of the recent donation, every dog had a clean comfy blanket to sleep on. It can be a lot of work, but it s worth the effort to know that you re helping out animals, says Gardella, who organized the effort. I have owned my fair share of pets dogs, cats, and parrots. They all are so sweet and become a part of your life.
