Show your house, not your pet

Statistics have shown that homes with pets, pet odor, and pet damage can suffer tens of thousands of dollars in lost value. Keep these things in mind to help you remove the signs of your pet and sell your house:

Buyers can be nosey

If you can smell it, you can t sell it! Many pet owners don t notice the presence of an odor because they are acclimated to living with it. Enzymatic cleaners such as Simple Solution and Nature s Miracle will help neutralize the pet odor in your home. Sellers should consider having carpet and hardwood floor stains removed by a professional before putting the house on the market. In some circumstances, carpets and padding might need to be replaced to entirely eliminate more potent pet odors.

Out of sight, out of mind

You never know how your pet might react to strangers entering your home. When your house is being shown, confine your pet to a carrier or cage, preferably outside, in the basement, or in the garage. Or, weather permitting, take your dog for a walk around the neighborhood. Consider relocating your pets while your home is on the market. Maybe a neighbor, friend, or relative would be willing to care for them.

Hide the evidence

Make sure to do the following: 1. Put away food and water bowls when not in use. 2. Vacuum once or twice a day. 3. Pack up any pet paraphernalia (toys, cat towers, scratch boards, litter boxes, etc.). Allow buyers to visualize your home as theirs without distractions of the sight, sound, and smell of your beloved pets. Most home sellers will benefit by selling their homes for a better price, with less time on the market.
