Two years ago, Herbert and Evelyn Jaffe reserved their spot at Cedar Crest because they had a feeling they would one day get tired of their old house in Livingston, N.J. Late last April, that day came. It wasn t one thing that tipped us over the edge, Mrs. Jaffe explains. We finally just said enough is enough. We had a split-level home, so you were always going up and down the stairs. It became a real hassle. And that s before having to do things like hauling laundry or groceries. So the couple called Cedar Crest, told them they were ready to move in, and looked for suggestions for real estate agents. We had heard all the news about how difficult the real estate market can be, says Mr. Jaffe, a business consultant. But our experience was quite the opposite. We actually were taken aback by how quickly we sold our house.

A picture s worth

The Jaffes took the advice of Cedar Crest s Personal Moving Consultant Margaret Semezko and rented a small storage space nearby to help declutter their house. Semezko visited the home before it was put on the market. The Jaffes house had a lot going for it, Semezko says. The couple had recently renovated two of the three bathrooms, and it was in a desired neighborhood. For the most part, it was move-in ready. There wasn t a lot to do aside from decluttering. After that was done, their real estate agent sent a professional photographer over to take pictures. I think that was really what brought people in, says Mrs. Jaffe. I looked at the website that our agent put up, and I don t think I ve ever seen our house look so good. It was amazing. We had one offer after just four days, she adds. But we thought it was a bit low. We hadn t even had an open house yet, so we shelved the offer. That following weekend, the open house was a success, and we got a good offer. By early June, the couple was settled in atCedar Crest. And we ve felt very comfortable here from day one, Mrs. Jaffe says. We think moving here was one of the best decisions we ve ever made.
