Richard (Dick) Taylor loved the townhome off Joppa Rd. and Loch Raven Blvd. that he and his late wife shared for 40-some odd years. But after three years alone in the house, he was ready for a change. My son told me aboutOak Crest, so I thought I would take a look, says Taylor, a retired Baltimore City Police officer. I went to a luncheon at the community where I met all these wonderful people, and I said to myself, This is exactly what I was looking for. As it turns out, it was. Taylor moved into his new apartment home atOak Creston October 23, 2009, and hasn t looked back. I have just the right amount of space now, says Taylor, who opted for the Brighton floor plan, a large one bedroom apartment home. It s the perfect size for me. I don t have a whole house to clean and maintain. I have a wonderful view above the treetops, and it s conveniently located in the same neighborhood I was already familiar with.

From start to finish

Like most people, Taylor wasn t sure what to expect when it came to selling his Parkville house in today s real estatemarket. But thanks to the help of Erickson Realty & Moving Services, Taylor sold his house in just over two weeks. I couldn t believe how fast the house sold and how quickly and smoothly everything went, he says. Real estate agent Rob Commodari, who listed Taylor s house, says the Erickson Realty & Moving Services program has taken a lot of the stress out of the moving process for his clients moving toOak Crest. It s a huge benefit, he says. They take the client from start to finish and make the transition smooth and pain-free.

Taking suggestions

According to Commodari, Taylor was able to sell his house quickly because he was willing to do all the right things to get his house sold. Before we listed Mr. Taylor s home, the house was freshly painted, new carpet was put in the basement, the home was decluttered, the landscaping was kept nice and neat, and the house was professionally cleaned, he says. In addition to preparing the house, Commodari says it s important for people to be realistic about their expectations. When it comes to pricing your house, many people have the philosophy of starting high and lowering the price over time. The danger here is you can end up chasing the market down, says Commodari. We are in an extremely price-conscious market now, and pricing your house right is critical. It s important to be realistic and let the market determine what your house is worth.

Significant savings

Because Taylor listed with Commodari anOak Crestpreferred agent and used anOak Crestrecommended mover, he was able to take advantage of the Move on Us program, which refunds new residents up to $2,000 in expenses. Taylor s son Richard and his daughter-in-law, Mary, helped organize the move. The movers were absolutely fabulous, says Mary Taylor. They were really familiar with working with people who are moving from a longtime home. We also appreciated the attention that theOak Crestsales office showed Dad and us. It was always easy to get in touch with someone whenever we had questions or concerns, and they made sure that everything went smoothly. Taylor says life is better living atOak Crestbecause he s not constantly looking for companionship. I ve made so many friends since I moved here, he says. I couldn t be happier.
