Today, the government launched a website to explain what the Affordable Care Act means for specific groups including seniors. You can visit the section for older adults at http://www.healthcare.gov/foryou/seniors/index.html. The first item of business? In mid-June, Medicare sent the initial batch of its one-time, tax-free $250 rebate checks to people who fell into the Medicare Part D donut hole (prescription drug coverage gap). For more information, visit http://www.fylrr.com/archives.php?doc=11464.pdf.  Medicare will continue disbursing the checks through the end of the year as beneficiaries fall out of coverage. Next up: In 2011, ' those in the donut hole will ' receive ' 50% off the cost of approved prescription drugs. The best news preventive screenings and an annual physical will be free under Medicare as of January 2011.
