When Phil Meynen visited Eagle s Trace last year to sign his move-in paperwork, that particular community wasn t his final destination. The longtime Houston resident was finally pulling up his roots in the Bayou City and heading north to Dallas. My daughter lives in Arlington, says Meynen, who retired from M.W. Kellogg, now KBR, ten years ago. She suggested that I move up here because she wasn t in a position to move to Houston. Already familiar with Erickson Living communities through a former neighbor who moved to Eagle s Trace and had nothing but good things to say about it, Meynen set his sights on its sister campus, Highland Springs in north Dallas.

Nationwide network

When a prospective resident is ready to move to anErickson community, our nationwide network of resources is here to help, says Blaga Bayer, personal moving consultant atEagle s Trace. Erickson Realty & Moving Services is available at all of our communities. Whether you re moving across town, across the state, or across the country, we can recommend professionals who share our mission and values. To assist Meynen with selling his house, Bayer put him in touch with Ginger Hopper, a Houston-based real estate agent. I interviewed two real estate agents, says Meynen. The first one, I contacted on my own. When I told her what I wanted for the house, her face dropped. She was literally speechless. When I told Ginger the same amount, she told me she would see what she could do. Within a week, she had an open house and made contact with the people who ultimately bought it.

Location, location, location

Meynen purchased his Memorial-area home in 1970, so the house needed some updating. But it had the equivalent of a real estate golden ticket a great location. The home backed up to Buffalo Bayou, and it was in a terrific spot, says Hopper. A few things needed to be moved out and shifted around to make the house show-worthy, but that s where I come in. Hopper was a professional home stager before she went into residential real estate. One of the perks people get when they list with me is my expertise in staging a home. You can enhance the size of a room and make it feel so much more inviting with a few well-placed furniture pieces, she says.

Heading up I-45

A month after his house hit the market, Meynen closed on the property. He was ready to head north. This time, Gail Wrzesinski, personal moving consultant atHighland Springs, was on hand to recommend a moving company. Gail and I worked together to ensure that Mr. Meynen s transition from Houston to Dallas was as smooth as possible, says Bayer. Now settled in his apartment home atHighland Springs, Meynen is starting to feel his way around a new city. He s already been to the Dallas Symphony a number of times. I was very fortunate that my home sold so quickly, he says. I m glad to be closer to my daughter, and I like what I ve seen of Dallas so far. This was a good move for me.
