In a 45-day span of time we retired, sold our house, moved to Riderwood, and had a granddaughter, says Dave Pasternak. How did he and his wife, Cathy, do it? Erickson Realty and Moving Services really took care of getting us here. And we are very grateful. The couple was on the priority list (waiting list for an apartment home) at an Erickson Living community in Pennsylvania when they learned that their youngest daughter, who lives in Maryland, was expecting a baby. We knew we wanted to be close to her, so we moved our priority status to Riderwood, they say. The Pasternaks who were still working right up until they moved turned to Erickson Realty and Moving Services for help selling their house in Rockville, Md. As frequent movers, who had moved many times over the course of their careers, the couple was eager to receive a helping hand. In the 11 years since we had last moved, the biggest difference we discovered was in how houses are marketed, says Mrs. Pasternak. It s all through the Internet now. Our Realtor [who came recommended by Erickson Realty and Moving Services] was up-to-date on the use of technology and used pictures and virtual tours online to help us sell our home, says Mr. Pasternak. I really think that s what brought our buyer to us. In addition to the real estate agent, Riderwood s Personal Moving Consultant Elena Price visited the couple in their home and made suggestions for selling the house quickly. We had a lot of furniture that Elena was able to help us give away, says Mr. Pasternak. She also helped us get rid of a lot of clutter and spruce up our curbside appeal. It was very helpful having a fresh set of eyes looking at our house in the same way a buyer would. With all the support they received, the Pasternaks house sold in less than 60 days. We then turned to Erickson Realty and Moving Services [recommended movers] to take care of the actual packing and moving, says Mr. Pasternak. Even though we had been through many moves, we still found them to be very helpful. Since moving to Riderwood in July 2009, the Pasternaks have gone full steam ahead. She is a talented singer who lends her voice to the Grace Notes singing group. She also plays bridge, takes classes offered through Prince George s Community College, participates in Wii bowling, makes jewelry for the annual art sale, and is a member of both the welcoming committee and dog group. With all those activities on her plate, Mrs. Pasternak still makes time to visit her granddaughter at least once a week. Mr. Pasternak takes classes, visits the fitness center at least three times a week, and belongs to the computer club. He has served on the Resident Advisory Council and the staff appreciation committee as well as played in the community s annual softball tournament. When we were deciding where to move, over and over we heard people at various communities say, I wish we had done it ten years earlier, says Mr. Pasternak. So we did! We are only 68 and we re having a great time here at Riderwood.
