Couple finds lifestyle they’ve been searching for in their own backyard

In the summer of 2007, long-time Highlands Ranch residents Bill and Gwen Hurd watched as Wind Crest went from construction site to community. Three years later when they began thinking about trading in their two-story, four-bedroom home and moving to a retirement community, Wind Crest was impossible to ignore. We drove by Wind Crest when it was being built, but we never stopped to check it out, says Mrs. Hurd. At the time we just weren t sure if we wanted to sell our house and move. Then I kept reading good things about the community, but it wasn t until about a year ago when we received an invitation in the mail inviting us to lunch that we actually came and toured the community. The Hurds looked at two other communities in the Denver area, as well as a community in California near their daughter, but say two things in particular kept drawing them back to Wind Crest. We always wanted a mountain view, says Mrs. Hurd. Some of the other places we looked at just didn t have the wonderful mountain views we have here. That combined with the overall friendliness of Wind Crest and the attitude of the people who live here really made the difference for us.

So in April 2010, the Hurds joined Wind Crest s priority list and began preparing their house for sale. Before we put the house on the market we did the kind of things a lot of people do, says Mrs. Hurd. We painted the whole interior of the house. We made necessary repairs. And we updated the kitchen by replacing our countertops with new quartz counters and installing a new sink. Still, when it came to selling their home of 20 years, the Hurds weren t quite sure what to expect. But thanks to the help of Erickson Realty and Moving Services a program designed by Erickson Living that combines the services of real estate agents, professional home stagers, movers, and other moving resources into one comprehensive, personalized program for people moving to an Erickson Living community the couple sold their house in just over a month. We were very lucky, says Mrs. Hurd. Wind Crest helped us along the way both with selling [our house] and finding the apartment we wanted. They came out to the house and made suggestions on things that would help the house sell faster. They also referred us to a staging company who came out and helped us get the house ready for sale. Just four months after joining the priority list, the Hurds are now enjoying their new two-bedroom apartment home complete with the mountain views they had hoped for as well as the carefree lifestyle Wind Crest is known for. We have beautiful views of downtown Denver and the snow-topped mountains, says Mrs. Hurd. Bill plays water volleyball and uses the fitness center. I volunteer with the University of Denver and with our church. It s been so nice to be able to stay in the same neighborhood and still do all the things we did when we lived in our house, but now we don t have to do all of the work that goes along with it like raking leaves and shoveling snow.
