Move first, then sell

The right choice for this Ann’s Choice resident

Fred Schultz recently moved into Ann s Choice, an Erickson Living community in Bucks County, Pa., and says he couldn t have done it without the efforts of Erickson Realty and Moving Services. Personal Moving Consultant Colleen Rosica directed Schultz to services that allowed him to downsize, depersonalize, and stage his house as well as pack and move his belongings. He chose a real estate agent off the list of preferred vendors and listed his house in October 2010. He got an agreement of sale on December 27. This is proof positive why people shouldn t take their houses off the market in December, Rosica says. When buyers are looking over the holidays, they are serious buyers. Schultz is grateful for the help from Erickson Realty and Moving Services. With all their encouragement, advice, and support, I felt like I was in very good hands, he says.

Stress-free the goal

Once Schultz had decided to move to Ann s Choice, he was determined to do so in a stress-free way. With the loss of both his wife and one son, as well as having knee replacement surgery, he needed his move to be as effortless as possible. First, he decided to make the move before putting his house on the market. The house was filled with collectibles his trains and his wife s dolls of which 50 of them he brought to his new apartment home. I donated everything that I didn t keep, Schultz says. There was no reason to sell it. What he didn t pass along to family and friends, he gave to places like Goodwill. Things like the trains and his wife s knitting supplies, he donated to various clubs at Ann s Choice as a way of keeping her close and making sure those things were put to good use. And Schultz knows a thing or two about trains he was a supervisor for the New York City subway system. So he plans on getting involved with the trains club on campus. Mr. Schultz truly took the stress out of moving by getting settled at Ann s Choice first and then listing his house for sale, Rosica says. He didn t have to worry about being inconvenienced by showing appointments. He just had to sit back and wait for the real estate agent to call with an offer.

Fitness fanatic

With his house sold, Schultz has been creating a new routine for himself at Ann s Choice. An avid exerciser, he goes to the fitness center three days a week and also takes tai chi classes twice a week. The fitness amenities were one of the things that drew him to Ann s Choice in the first place, and have enabled him to recover more quickly from his knee replacement surgery. Though Schultz s three grandchildren are scattered around the country, his other son lives nearby and visits often. Biding his time, Schultz s son is looking forward to the day he can move into Ann s Choice himself. He s very impressed with it, Schultz says, and I like being here too. It s helping me get my balance back.
