This year, Cedar Crest warmly welcomed Ruth Phillips as the new sales counselor the first point of contact for anyone considering a move to the Erickson Living community in Pompton Plains, N.J. While she may be new to Cedar Crest, Ruth has been helping people discover the Erickson Living lifestyle for nearly a decade. With experience on her side, Ruth s caring, nurturing, and compassionate personality has helped turn what can be a daunting transition into a rewarding lifestyle for hundreds of people.

Start at Seabrook

Originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., Ruth began her career with Erickson Living communities in October 2001 in the front office at Cedar Crest s sister community, Seabrook, in Tinton Falls, N.J. My two daughters were older, and I wanted to get back into the workforce, she explains. I ve always enjoyed being with other people and helping people so I was excited for the opportunity. In 2005 she took a position as sales counselor at Seabrook, playing an integral role in introducing people to the community and helping them through their decision to move. From financial requirements to social aspects to helping them find the right home, I hold their hand through the entire process, she says of her role at Seabrook and now Cedar Crest. It s such a big step, and some people are very nervous. I really listen to them to fully understand their needs and concerns so they can trust that I am truly there for them and I really do care.

Taste of Cedar Crest

In 2007, Cedar Crest was completing construction on its third neighborhood, Woodland Commons. Ruth pitched in, sharing her time and experience with the sales and marketing team and meeting Cedar Crest s residents and staff. It was a great way to get to know the community, she says. Little did she know, she would return full-time in January 2011. Now at Cedar Crest, Ruth continues helping people discover the variety of benefits an Erickson Living community has to offer. From personal safety and numerous amenities to on-site medical care and financial security, Ruth says Cedar Crest truly provides unrivaled comfort and peace of mind making her job even more enjoyable. It s very rewarding to know that people may have had struggles and hardships, and I ve helped them ease and enhance their life, she says.

Good enough for family

When Ruth isn t helping people move to Cedar Crest, she enjoys traveling, skiing, reading, and spending time with family, including her mother who has lived at Seabrook for more than eight years. My mother chose Seabrook for herself, Ruth says. She visited me at work one day and ended up on the priority list and then ended up moving in! Ruth adds that Seabrook was the perfect alternative to her mother s house in Tom s River, N.J., which was too much maintenance and not enough socialization. And we have the comfort of knowing if something should happen to her health, she doesn t have to move again, she says, as home care and assisted living are offered on the same campus.
