When Jerry Smith and his wife, Susan, heard that two couples from their Sunday School class were moving to Highland Springs, an Erickson Living community in Dallas, Tex., they decided to take a look for themselves. We lived a short distance from Highland Springs, Jerry says. In fact, we watched with interest as it was built in 2006.

Amenity-rich and affordable

Impressed with the on-site amenities, including a restaurant, caf , medical center, salon, bank, and fitness center, the couple was also pleasantly surprised with the affordability of the Erickson Living lifestyle. The entrance deposit was well within our means, and the monthly service package is very manageable, says Jerry, who worked as a service technician for Eastman Kodak. The couple initially looked at one-bedroom apartment homes, but soon expanded their search to include two-bedroom apartments, drawn by the flexibility afforded by an extra bedroom. They settled on a Hastings-style apartment home, with two bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms, a large kitchen, and spacious living room. Susan s sister comes to visit from Missouri, and we wanted to have a guest bedroom for her, Jerry says. It s also nice to have the additional half bath for guests.

Easy move

With their floor plan selected, the Smiths met with Gail Wrzesinski, Highland Springs personal moving consultant, to map out their move. Wrzesinski connected the couple with a real estate agent, stager, estate sale planner, and moving company all part of a preferred network of professionals who meet Erickson Living s high standards of service. This was such an easy move for us, Jerry says. We lived in our house for 28 years, so we had accumulated quite a bit. We were able to bring most of our antiques with us. The people recommended by Gail took care of all the moving details. With a team of professionals on the job, four days after their house hit the market, it was under contract! To further sweeten the deal, the Smiths were reimbursed for $2,000 of their moving expenses through Erickson Living s Move On Us program. Our total costs associated with moving worked out to $2,142, Jerry says. After we got $2,000 back, the move only cost us $142. I think we got a great deal.
