‘Ann’s Choice became our choice

Good neighbors follow one another to Bucks County Community

When Nancy Palumbo researched New Jersey retirement communities for her mother-in-law, she learned about Erickson Living s Seabrook community, in Tinton Falls. It sounded ideal and has proved to be just that. Her mother-in-law loves living there. So when Nancy learned about Ann s Choice, Erickson Living s community in Bucks County, Pa., she recommended it to her parents Marilyn and Bart Bartikowsky. They lived in Macungie, Pa., and another of their daughters lives in Lansdale. Nancy scored again. Ann s Choice became our choice, says Marilyn. It was in their home state, near their daughter, and offered more than 150 clubs and activities. They quickly joined its priority list. The fully refundable $1,000 deposit to join gives members the right of first refusal on the apartment home of their choice based on their priority date.

Sharing something good

When the Bartikowskys decided to move last year, Marilyn told her Macungie condo neighbor Lee Berkley about Ann s Choice. Lee had researched retirement communities throughout the Lehigh Valley but couldn t warm up to any of them. She d never heard of Ann s Choice. Her interest was piqued when Marilyn explained Erickson Living s innovative refundable entrance deposit, which is paid once to secure your apartment home, and returned to you or your heirs when your apartment is reoccupied (the Residence and Care Agreement has all of the details). Lee decided she and her husband, Cerf, and their daughter, who lives in Philadelphia, should tour Ann s Choice. We were amazed at the appearance and the size: 100 acres, Lee says. We were also amazed at the number of clubs, on-campus conveniences, and amenities. They joined the priority list at Ann s Choice right away.

Neighbors for life

After Marilyn and Bart moved last November, Marilyn continued to trail blaze for Lee and invited her to their comfortable new home. Lee liked it so well that she and Cerf declared preference for the same style, a Fenton floor plan (extra-large two-bedroom home with one and a half baths). Then she crossed her fingers that one would soon become available. That happened almost immediately. Even more amazing, the Berkleys condo sold in four days, and they moved in February. The rooms are very generous, says Lee. Even our monster sofa and end tables fit perfectly. Come spring, We were in shock, she says. The campus was abloom with pink blossoms. It was like we d moved into Versailles. Marilyn and Lee applaud the diversity 2,000 neighbors bring to their lives, and they value the Jewish presence on campus. There s a Seder here and a Rosh Hashanah dinner, Lee says. Neighbors once again, the women pursue a variety of on-campus activities. For Lee, that includes an interfaith study group and the Smalz film program s operas, ballets, and movies. She and Cerf also see the physician in Ann s Choice s medical center as their primary doctor. Marilyn enjoys the fitness center, the golf league, nightly billiards, and bridge. I didn t think I d be this happy, but Ann s Choice is next to perfect, she says.
