When most people get in a terrifying car accident, they have no choice but to keep driving and facing their fears. Not June Cobell. After an 18-wheeler totaled June s car, she decided to give up driving and take advantage of the reliable, convenient shuttle service offered by her new home, Crest, an Erickson Living community in Pompton Plains, N.J. June moved there last July from Lincoln Park, N.J., and has found not one but many advantages to changing her address. Through downsizing, she s discovered a more enjoyable lifestyle at Cedar Crest.

Simple move

It all started with selling her house and moving. June used Realty and Moving Services, a complimentary program designed to take the burden out of the selling and moving process for people moving to an Erickson Living community. It all went very nicely and smoothly, June attests. Margaret Semezko, personal moving consultant for Erickson Realty and Moving Services, recommended a trusted moving company from Erickson Living s preferred vendors list, which worked out very well, says June. Semezko often recommends a preferred real estate agent for one s location. Those who use a recommended real estate agent qualify to receive a sizeable reimbursement for their moving costs. Semezko also aids with staging a house for sale and works with the real estate agent to help determine the appropriate asking price.

Settled and satisfied

Having lived in her one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment home for almost a full year, June has no complaints. I ve found it very affordable, she says. June also has become so active in the community that she spends more time out of her home than in it. She volunteers at Cedar Crest s on-site continuing care neighborhood, participates in a crochet and knitting group, attends Catholic services at the on-site chapel, and travels frequently. As events come up, I enjoy them, she says of Cedar Crest s active events calendar. And while she loves her full-sized kitchen, she admits to rarely using it. I had a very large family, so I did enough cooking! she says. Cedar Crest has three restaurants and a sports bistro, all on campus. I take advantage of all the dining options here.
