Lori Gellenbeck knew the inside of Charlestown s apartment homes like the back of her hand before she ever started in the role of sales associate at the Catonsville, Md., Erickson Living community earlier this year. I was working with a local furniture rental company who furnished Charlestown s model apartment homes, says Gellenbeck. After graduating from North Carolina State University, she initially pursued a career in the hotel and hospitality industry. My job [with the rental company] was to come to the community, look at the apartments, and stage them with furniture and accessories. After a few visits, Gellenbeck quickly discovered why Charlestown earned third place in the Baltimore Business Journal s 2011 Best Places to Work Awards and hopped on the bandwagon. Charlestown is more than just a place to live it s a lifestyle and you gain peace of mind you simply can t get anywhere else, says Gellenbeck. Having the opportunity to help people discover how Charlestown can enhance their life and secure their future is what attracted me to Charlestown.

From A to Z

As a sales associate, Gellenbeck, along with the other members of Charlestown s sales team, works with individuals and couples interested in learning more about the Erickson Living lifestyle, as well as other aspects of the moving process, like selecting an apartment, selling a house, downsizing, finding a real estate agent, and hiring a moving company. The most important aspect of my job is to listen, says Gellenbeck. Change is difficult, even if it is good change. By listening to what people s fears and concerns and their hopes and dreams are, I can then help them design a timeline and lifestyle that suits their specific needs. Gellenbeck says whether you are sure a move to Charlestown is in your future or you are just curious and want to know more, the first step is to schedule a personal appointment. This will provide you with a general overview about Charlestown, our amenities, the continuing care that is available, and a personal tour of one of our neighborhoods and apartment homes. This is also a great time to ask any questions or discuss any particular concerns you have, she says.

Perfect timing

Gellenbeck also emphasizes the importance of joining Charlestown s priority list. If you feel Charlestown is the right place for you, joining the priority list is extremely important, says Gellenbeck. Charlestown is currently 97% sold out, so the sooner you join, the higher the guarantee your desired apartment home will be available when you are ready to move. Joining the priority list also gives you the opportunity to attend special events offered exclusively to our priority list members. Plus, Gellenbeck notes, when it comes time to move, priority list members have access to a variety of tools and services, including a personal moving consultant as part of the Erickson Realty and Moving Services program. We have people moving to Charlestown every day who, with the help of Personal Moving Consultant Vera Ballard, have had great success in selling their houses in the current market, says Gellenbeck. At the end of each day, Gellenbeck says she feels as though she is making an impact on people s lives and considers it a privilege to be a part of such a significant life decision. Moving to Charlestown is a big consideration for most people, says Gellenbeck. They need help understanding the lifestyle we provide, making the decision, and preparing for the move. That s what my team and I do, she says.
