Ashley Ruth specializes in successful, stress-free moves. As Oak Crest s personal moving consultant, Ruth has helped hundreds of people make their retirement dreams a reality by coordinating every detail of their house sale and move from start to finish. On September 28, Ruth will join the best of the best in the home and real estate industry, including local real estate professionals, movers, stagers, and antique dealers at the one-day Oak Crest Home Expo, held at the Erickson Living community in Parkville, Md. Recently, she sat down with the Tribune to discuss how her realty-related services will make selling your house a positive experience.

Q What can people expect when they meet with you for the first time?

A We ll discuss the moving process and how to prepare your house to go on the market. I ll share proven tips like improving the curb appeal of your house with easy updates like fresh paint, trimming shrubs and bushes, and how to affordably add color to your landscape. I can also help you determine how to best showcase your interior with fresh neutral paint colors, removing carpet to reveal hardwood flooring, and decluttering. Plus, I will provide you with the trusted resources that will help you find the right real estate agent and mover to suit your specific needs. I ll also show you how you can save up to $2,000 by using Oak Crest-preferred vendors through our Move On Us program. And if you have already selected your new apartment home at Oak Crest, I can begin measuring your furniture to create a schematic of your new home. Designing your furniture placement in advance can help you better prepare and avoid any surprises on moving day.

Q Does using an Oak Crest preferred real estate agent really make a difference?

A Yes, in several ways. Of this year s new residents, 77% used a preferred real estate agent. As a result, all were reimbursed up to $2,000 of their moving expenses through our Move On Us program. Also, the average number of days on the market using one of our preferred real estate agents is 65 days, compared to the Baltimore County average of more than 100 days on the market.

Q What is the most important thing a home seller can do to aid in a quick and successful home sale?

A Price the house correctly. Together, your real estate agent and I can provide you with the research and facts you need to price your house both competitively and realistically. By using neighborhood comparables, appraisal services, and experience, we ll be able to maximize your profits while selling your house in a reasonable time period.

Q Why is attending the September 28 home expo worthwhile?

A The home expo is one of the best ways to get answers to all of your moving, selling, and retirement questions all in one place. The expo grants you access to all of Oak Crest s preferred vendors, including trusted real estate agents, movers, and packers, as well as tips from the pros on staging your house for a successful sale, downsizing, and decluttering. Our custom interior designer, Holly Dennis, will be on hand to show you how custom features like paint, window treatments, and finishes such as crown molding, tile, and kitchen upgrades can transform your new apartment home into the ideal living space. I will be presenting helpful information on our Erickson Realty and Moving Services program. And it s also the perfect opportunity to tour a selection of our available apartment homes.
