Before moving to Maris Grove, Erickson Living s community in Glen Mills, Pa., Doris and Joe Miller spent 28 years in Long Boat Key on Florida s Gulf Coast. Then last November, Joe had to spend a month in rehab. Doris found herself alone and far from family the Millers two sons live in Delaware and New Jersey, and Joe s brother and sister-in-law Fred and Ann Miller, and his sister Shirley Solot, live in Pennsylvania at Maris Grove, in fact. For more than two years, Ann raved about Maris Grove, says Doris. She was having a wonderful time, so I decided we should move there, too. Sight unseen, she joined the community s priority list. Joining the list gave the Millers the right of first refusal on an available apartment home based on the date they joined their priority list date. It also made available to them, at no charge, the services of Maris Grove Personal Moving Consultant Suzanne McAllister, who helps new residents with every step of the moving process, even if it s long-distance.

Getting it done long-distance

Through phone calls and emails, McAllister guided Doris through decisions about choosing and furnishing the Millers new home. At that time, Maris Grove was taking reservations for the 75 apartment homes in its new Eagle Pointe residence building, and people with early priority list dates were snapping up the open, airy, and elegant homes. Then a Holden floor plan, a one-bedroom corner apartment with sunroom area and patio, became available in Eagle Pointe. The patio was foremost, says Doris, so she took it. She measured her furniture and emailed the information to McAllister, who emailed back a floor plan detailing a perfect arrangement. Doris followed McAllister s recommendation and chose Firpo Movers, a national firm that handles Maris Grove s Florida moves. Because their condo sold so quickly, the Millers arrived in Pennsylvania nearly three months before Eagle Pointe would open. But once again, Maris Grove smoothed the way. Sales Director Kathy McCrossin had arranged with Staybridge Suites, located across the street from Maris Grove, for Eagle Pointe residents to reserve rooms for as long as needed. We couldn t have made the move without Suzy and Kathy, Doris says. They did everything they could to make this so much easier. One call to Donna Henning, Maris Grove s transportation manager, and the campus shuttle provided the Millers with pick-up and delivery service. She and the five drivers were wonderful and so eager for us to be happy, Doris says. The Millers cut the ribbon July 25 to officially open Eagle Pointe and were the first residents to move in. We re very happy, Doris says.
