Local homes sell quickly

Ashby Ponds’ Red Robin View sold out in less than three months

Created date

October 23rd, 2012

In less than three months, the new 80-home residence building at Ashby Ponds, an Erickson Living community in Ashburn, Va., completely sold out. The growth of the community mirrors that of Loudoun County, where Ashby Ponds is located. As one of the fastest growing counties in the country, Loudoun saw an 84.1% increase in population from 2000 to 2010. This past August, CNN Money ranked the county as the best county in the nation for job growth. As a result, people from all over the country are looking to settle in the area. The fact that Red Robin View sold out so quickly indicates that retirees are increasingly seeking a comfortable, affordable lifestyle accompanied by the financial security that Ashby Ponds can provide, says Ashby Ponds Director of Finance Chris Villa.

A place called home

According to Elizabeth McCumiskey, Ashby Ponds personal moving consultant, approximately 20% of Red Robin View residents moved from another geographical area. We ve seen residents come back to the area after initially retiring elsewhere, often to be closer to their children and grandchildren, she says. As one of first couples to move into Red Robin View, William and Abigail Toufectis were drawn to Ashby Ponds from their home in Blacksburg, Va. We were the very first ones to reserve a home in Red Robin View, says William. We are originally from New York but lived in Reston for ten years, says Abigail. Each of our three children attended college in Virginia and remained in the area. Our son lives in Washington, D.C., and our daughters live in Herndon and Blacksburg. We looked everywhere, but the Erickson Living communities really appealed to us. In addition to William and Abigail, Red Robin View added more than 100 new neighbors to the existing 600-member community.

Familiar facets

Each of the new Red Robin View apartment homes features amenities already popular at the community, including modernized kitchens with granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances; full-sized, side-by-side washers and dryers; walk-in closets; and custom flooring and light fixtures. These are features that many of the residents see in their children s homes and in many of the homes that they have come from, says Susan Mendoza, Ashby Ponds custom interiors coordinator. The open floor plans also have an added appeal for entertaining friends and family. Virtual tours of 2 of the 15 floor plans in Red Robin View can be found on the Ashby Ponds website at, including the one-bedroom with den Newbury and the deluxe two-bedroom Somerton. Wallace and Kathleen Russell chose one of Red Robin View s sought-after Somertons when they moved from their Alexandria, Va., house this past spring. It is a beautiful home, says Kathleen. We love the beautiful views from our porch, and I was delighted that we were able to bring all the things that are important to us. We are so happy we made the move, says Wallace. In the short time we ve been here, we enjoy Ashby Ponds very much. Everyone is so friendly, and there are so many things to do.

Looking to the future

When we introduced Red Robin View, we knew these apartment homes would not be available for long, says David Gallagher, Ashby Ponds executive director. The community is now discussing options for adding additional residences in the future. While no announcements have been made to date, Gallagher encourages anyone considering a future at Ashby Ponds to join the priority list. The list, acting as a waiting list, ensures a future home at the community. Joining the priority list also allows members to attend special functions at Ashby Ponds, including opportunities to tour apartment homes, talk with current residents, and ask important questions. Most importantly, priority list members receive first notice when new residence buildings are announced. Membership is growing every day, says Ashby Ponds Sales Counselor Dana Bradshaw. Anyone considering a future at Ashby Ponds should definitely consider joining.
