Putting down new roots

Maryland couple sells quickly, moves (with their tree) to Riderwood

Over 30 years ago, Judy and Ray Brown planted a miniature Japanese maple in front of their residence located just six miles from Riderwood, an Erickson Living community in Silver Spring, Md. Looking for a new adventure in life and not wanting to move away from the area, the Browns moved to Riderwood, where their beloved maple made the move before they did and where they are both the couple and the tree putting down new roots. Judy and Ray enlisted the help of Erickson Realty and Moving Services for each step of their move, beginning with a home visit by Kimberly Schoeberlein, Riderwood s personal moving consultant. The Browns had their floors refinished and got to work on downsizing and reserving an apartment home at Riderwood. All they had to do then was sell their house and move. Judy says she took a chance and asked Schoberlein if they could bring their Japanese maple with them not expecting much, but hoping for the best. Schoeberlein helped get permission for the Browns to transplant the tree Judy had spent decades patiently pruning and shaping into a work of art.

Team approach

That wasn t the only thing that made the Browns choose Riderwood. They heard from many friends already living on campus what a benefit it was to use the community s realty and moving services. We heard wonderful stories about the moving process, Judy says, and that was huge in our decision to work with the Riderwood moving team. Perhaps the biggest impact from working with Erickson Realty and Moving Services was using a preferred real estate agent on the list of trusted vendors. The Brown s house not only sold quickly, it had eight offers in six days for over the asking price! Everyone here went above and beyond to make our move as smooth as possible, Judy says. Just as the Brown s tree is reaching its roots into new ground in front of the couple s living room window, Judy and Ray are looking forward to digging in and embracing all the Riderwood community has to offer.
