Last August, when Betsy Thompson moved from a three-bedroom house, in Wyndmoor, Pa., to Ann s Choice, the Erickson Living community in Bucks County, she took a loss on the sale. But that was okay, she says. I asked myself which would matter more in ten years, that I got a little more money or that I was living the life I wanted? I m so grateful to be here, Betsy says. Her move lifted the weight of house upkeep from her shoulders and gave her unlimited time to write, which she does nearly all day, every day. Living a spirit-led path, in 12 years she s written six books, each of which conveys the message that people should love themselves. I believe there s God in all of us, she says. We re all spirit informed. At Ann s Choice, she lives in a two-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath Hastings-style apartment that features a bay window in its spacious great room. The bay makes the room, Betsy says. It gathers in sunshine and fills the area with light.

Creating a lovely space

To make the home truly hers, Betsy turned to Robin Chasnov in the community s custom services department. Chasnov had Betsy s carpeting replaced with glistening wood floors. She had floor-to-ceiling bookcases built in the great room, special shelving installed in the master bedroom s walk-in closet, and shelves built into the second bedroom s closet. Furnished with a wraparound desk, tall bookcase, and comfy overstuffed chair and ottoman, the former second bedroom is Betsy s writing room. Its closet holds supplies she uses in another business venture, designing and knitting children s sweaters. She also knits for charity. Betsy s generous kitchen, open to the great room, would entice any cook. And her creative d cor would look at home in Colonial Williamsburg or Manhattan. The oriental rugs, antique dark-wood furniture, and upholstered great room seating covered in coarse white fabric exude serenity. My spirit side is happy, Betsy says. I made sure the things I brought would create a lovely space for me. With help from Personal Moving Consultant Colleen Rosica, she even found nooks and crannies for all her little end tables. Writing is a solitary pursuit, so Betsy appreciates the abundant opportunities to socialize whenever she opens her door. And she meets new neighbors each evening when she dines in one of the community s four on-site restaurants. A son and grandchildren live nearby in Perkasie. And Yardley residents Peace and George Baxter Peace is Betsy s cousin will soon become her neighbors. After Betsy told Peace how happy she was at Ann s Choice, the Baxters toured the campus and decided they loved it, too.
